My son, Henry, recently turned 2 and is obsessed with all buses. We sing the “Wheels on the Bus” song every time we see one in town (which is basically all the time). So I went with a Wheels on the Bus party for his birthday; this would also be a fun idea for a back to school party.
The food for this party was planned to specifically represent the various verses of the Wheels on the Bus song:
Wheels (that go round & round): Chocolate Covered Donuts on sticks
Wipers (that go swish, swish, swish): Black Licorice
Horn (that goes beep, beep, beep): Bugles
Coins (that go clink, clink, clink): Chocolate Coin Candy
Mommas & Daddies (that say “I love you”): PB&J sandwiches cut into hearts
Babies (that go “wah, wah, wah”): Cry Babies Candy
Doors (that go open and shut): Graham cracker sandwiches with Nutella and bananas
I was in the first trimester of my pregnancy for this party and needed to keep it super simple. So decor was limited to a the food table: the backdrop consisted of giant “road signs” made from bright yellow posterboard, tablecloths were made to look like a road, and I also made a couple mini road signs to set up along the way. The table the children sat at also has a road tablecloth, along with buses they could drive down the road. Finally, I painted wooden forks yellow, drew on two black lines and added a red rhinestone.
We kept the games simple and played Pin the Wheels on the Bus.
Each child received a favor with a mini Oh Henry! candy bar and a bus crayon from Posh Paper Creations.
