Back in April of this year, I (Angie) remember seeing something about this craft show in Santa Clarita called the Polka Dot Roadshow. It looked like fun, and personally, I love polka dots, so I logged it in my brain as something I would get to if I had time. The day of the roadshow came, my mom was in town and we needed something to do, so we went to check it out. I called Monika and she was free too, so we were able to meet there.
To be honest, I didn’t have very high expectations. I kind of expected to find my mom’s craft fair…you know the kind? Grapevine wreaths with fake flowers hot-glued on, scrunchies, cross stitched Holly Hobbie, Precious Moments. Clearly it had been a long time since I’d been to a craft fair. But what we found was nothing like our mother’s craft fairs…what we found was new, hip and trending! A whole bunch of super cool Etsy shops all in one big room! We were completely blown away by all the talented makers that were right under our noses in our own community, and we were hooked. Since that time, between the two us, we’ve purchased from almost every vendor there, and have gotten to know many of these talented ladies. We may have a slight obsession with local handmade.
The Polka Dot Roadshow is a mercantile and art fair. What we didn’t know at the time, was that the fair we attended was actually the very first Polka Dot Roadshow. It was started by two friends who, like us, love to shop local handmade, and would drive all over SoCal to go attend fairs in other cities. So they decided that instead of driving all over, they would just start one in their own city, focusing on providing a variety of handmade sellers who offer unique, fun, quality and handmade products. Their goal is to eventually take the roadshow on the road and “pop up” in other cities that don’t have their own handmade markets.
For obvious reasons, we are huge supporters of the Polka Dot Roadshow. They support our community by promoting local makers and creatives who make extraordinary products. They also give back to the community by partnering with a local charity, Family Promise of Santa Clarita (all tickets and raffle sales from the fair go to Family Promise).
We are so excited to be partnering up with the Polk Dot Roadshow for their Holiday Fair this Saturday, November 12th from 10am – 4pm. Like, really excited! We have the honor of designing the booth for Family Promise of SCV and all the raffles. There will be over 40 items for the raffle, each donated by the Polka Dot Roadshow vendors, and everyone who attends will receive one raffle ticket (extras are available for purchase). We may even be adding a little something of our own to the raffle!
There will be 50 simply amazing sellers in attendance, many of whom are part of our preferred vendor directory, like Cari’s Canvas, i SewPose, All Good Things Candles, and Vibe Marketplace. There will be antiques, furniture, candles, holiday decorations, children’s toys, baby accessories, home decor, candles, clothing, and more, so this will be the ultimate place to get started with your Christmas shopping, or get your own home ready for the holidays. Besides finding one of a kind beautiful items, it is so wonderful to know that the money you spend goes to supporting a mama or lady entrepreneur doing something she is passionate about. Shopping at Target is fun, but it pales in comparison to meeting the smiling face behind the unique product you’re purchasing.
So if you’re in or close to the Santa Clarita Valley and you have some free time on Saturday, you will definitely want to check out the Polka Dot Road Show. Tickets to get in are $5, but right now, we are holding a GIVEAWAY on our Instagram account for 4 FREE TICKETS (so you can shop with your besties) and some products and shop credits (over $75 value) to a few of our favorite makers at the fair! The contest runs through Wednesday, Nov. 9th, so head on over to enter!
